$10,000 in Seed Money Available to NAAB-Accredited Programs
Each academic year, the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) awards up to a total of $10,000 through one, two, or three grants to NAAB-accredited programs to support the creation of a new curricular initiatives that integrate practice and education.

The NCARB Prize Grant program was launched in 2006 as an extension of the NCARB Prize for Creative Integration of Practice and Education in the Academy. As a separate funding venture, NCARB Grants are designed to help schools implement new programs that merge practice and education in a studio or classroom setting.

Programs applying for NCARB Grants are encouraged to:

• explore different venues or innovative curricular methods or programs that will increase the practice/education link; and
• present concepts that may be more risk-taking than a school can initially afford on its own.

Look At Past NCARB Prize Winners for Inspiration
Applicants seeking inspiration on ways to integrate practice into the academy should study the annual NCARB publications on past NCARB Prize winners. While these projects are models of successful programs, it is important to assess the various aspects of the each program and determine how best to adapt it to fit their institution's unique circumstances. Proposed projects for the grant are not limited to programs based on past NCARB Prize winners.

Application Due by Tuesday, October 21, 2008
Proposals for the 2008 NCARB Grant must be submitted electronically to ncarbgrant@ncarb.org by e-mail no earlier than Tuesday, September 23, 2008 and no later than Tuesday, October 21, 2008, 5:00 p.m. EDT. Institutions may submit more than one application.

The members of the NCARB Practice Education Committee will review the proposals. Written notification of the Committee’s decisions will be mailed at the beginning of December so that project(s) can start in January with the implementation of the studio/class being offered in the Fall at the latest.

The selected institution(s) will receive a check and an award letter that outlines specific terms and conditions for the grant including a project report after the project is completed that will be published in NCARB reports. Project expenses are intended to be for a one-year time period including implementation of the studio/class. NCARB reserves the right not to make any awards, based on the quality of the proposals.
